NoMAD present their vision for the parametric design and digital fabrication of net-zero concrete components in Brussels as part of the EIC Pathfinder Towards Cement and Concrete as a Carbon Sink launch. This EIC Pathfinder program is pivotal to the delivery of our Net Zero 2050 goals and more sustainable European construction practice. Traditional cement production contributes approximately 8% of global CO₂ emissions, primarily due to the chemical conversion of limestone into clinker and the high-temperature processes involved. This program seeks breakthrough innovations to develop decarbonized and carbon-negative cement and concrete technologies. By exploring alternative low-carbon binders, efficient clinker utilization and fossil fuel-free manufacturing methods, the initiative aims to reduce the environmental impact of construction materials. Success in these areas will lead to greener building practices, significantly lowering the carbon footprint of infrastructure projects across Europe and the world.
